The islands of the Maddalena ArchipelagoMaddalena Archipelago lie in one of the most seducing seas in the world. Luxuriant Mediterranean vegetation and rare essences. Moreover, beaches, bays, small bays, gorges, and very white or pink sands; granitic rocks shaped and dug by the raging and purifying wind of a sea where dolphins and big fishes swim. Arcipelago di La Maddalena is known all over the world as a territory of rare beauty and of particular naturalistic, historical and cultural value. The establishment of the "La Maddalena National Park" will without a doubt set off the safeguard and the enhancement of all the resources of the territory. The Archipelago of Maddalena, known and appreciated by the people fond of sea and of sailing, will become a cause of pride for Sardinia and for the whole Country and will attract the attention of the European Union. Islands and holms situated in the large and charming stretch of sea between the Bocche di Bonifacio and the Costa Smeralda. La Maddalena, Caprera, S. Stefano, Spargi, Budelli, Razzoli, S. Maria, and a myriad of holms (among which Mortorio, Soffi, and Nibani) scattered in the most beautiful stretch of Mediterranean Sea, and maybe of the whole world, form an archipelago which is universally considered a real nature work of art. Sailing this waters with a sailing boat charter will be a breathtaking experience.

Maddalena ArchipelagoThe Park will attract thousands of tourists, coming in particular from Europe and looking for uncontaminated areas. Big and small islands, transparencies, stones shaped by the wind, beaches with very thin sands, inlets, bays, ravines, blue depths and low seabed where you can see your image reflected. A submerged world populated by thousands of animal and vegetal species, underwater relicts and archaeological sites of great interest. Everything, together with the plants which find a perfect integration with the granitic rocks, represent a unique and unmistakable area and a great attraction. Visiting the National Park of La Maddalena means to travel in a wonderful world.

Budelli
The island of Budelli Budelliis famous above all for its splendid Spiaggia Rosa (Pink Beach), one of the most beautiful in the Mediterranean, to be absolutely visited for the great amount of foraminifera and other marine micro-organisms which, ground by the waves and spread over the shore, give the very fine sand a special pink colour, well matching the surrounding granite rocks. The highest point on the island is Monte Budello (88 m) from which splendid views open onto the nearby islands of Razzoli and Santa Maria, the Sardinian coasts and the island of La Maddalena. Other interesting places of Budelli are the beaches of Cala Piatto, Cala Cisternone, Cala di Trana and Cala del Cavaliere. The last one - facing the channel of Cecca di Morto o Porto della Madonna, formed by Budelli and the islands of Santa Maria and Razzoli - offers once more an incomparably transparent sea.

Caprera
This island of Caprera has been Capreradeclared a natural reserve for the particular species of seabirds living on it (royal seagull, cormorant and peregrine falcon). The island's name is linked to that of Giuseppe Garibaldi, an Italian patriot and fighter who lived in the XIX century and was one of the fathers of the Italian independence. He bought the island in 1855 and died there in 1882. His house is now a museum and a memorial chapel and the island itself is a national monument. Caprera is linked to La Maddalena island by a street built on a 600 metres long dam. The island was probably given this name because of the numerous wild goats living on it (Capra means goat in Italian). It is the second largest island and has a surface of 16 km2 and 45 kilometres of coastline. Monte Tejalone is the highest point (212 m).Caprera On the south-western side there is a very important sailing centre and the many coves and anchorages which can be found along the coastline make the landing easy. There are no hotels but only a resort with bungalows. The seabeds are a must both for naturalists and underwater archaeology fans. Many remains of Roman cargo ships as well as of the boat of Garibaldi were found there. History informs us that after the Roman occupation Caprera remained deserted for centuries before being inhabited by groups of shepherds. Later in 1855 the Hero of the Two worlds (Garibaldi) decided to settle there and lanted the first trees of the blooming pinevood which covers the island today. A century after Garibaldi's death the island was freed from the numerous existing military restrictions and is now completely open to the public.

Maddalena Island
The Island of the Maddalena La Maddalenahas maintained the fascinating aspect of an ancient fishing village, in stark contrast to the artificial tourist villages of the Sardinian coast, the islands of the Archipelago have been preserved almost intact. The pink granite of many hues emerges magnificent from the Mediterranean vegetation, fragrant with the perfume of myrtle and rosemary, which turns to forest in the hidden coves make of Maddalena one of the favopurite destination of sailing charter in sardinia. The beaches are made up of fine white or rose coloured sand bathed by crystal clear waters. In reality only the wind and the terrible storms of the Bocche di Bonifacio rule here, they model the rock formations and the vegetation and for tens of years have had an effect on tourism. The spectacular scenery would fascinate anyone but especially nature lovers who will appreciate the endemic wildlife: the Bedriaga lizard, the coral coloured beaked Corsican seagull colonies, the wild rabbits and the passage of wild migratory birds in spring and autumn.

Mortorio
Beyond Porto Liccia Mortorioand Punta Capaccia, closing it to the south, there is the wide bay of Romazzino, with crystalline waters and a beautiful. A little further to the south, there is Piccolo Romazzino - a smaller complex separated from the main one - built next to the inlet of Lu Imbarcatoio, which offers some beautiful beaches surrounded by the gentle outlines of verdant hills. Between the two complexes, a very panoramic stretch of coastal road - with fascinating views over the near reefs and the islands of Soffi and Mortorio - leads, making only a short detour, to Portu di Li Coggi, perhaps the most beautiful cove on the Emerald Coast. It is also known as the spiaggia del Principe (beach of the Prince) and it does deserve to be visited. The most enthusiastic descriptions and the most spectacular photographs are incapable of communicating the charm of this splendid inlet.

Razzoli
Razzoli is, without doubt,Razzoli the steepest and most uneven island of the archipelago: thanks to this characteristic, it offers the most interesting examples of granite clusters, which assume really “artistic” shapes along many stretches of its coast. The best approach is from Cala Lunga, a small submerged valley into which the sea creeps, taking splendid colours, through a forest of rocky spurs, variously shaped by erosion. The highest point, near the southern coast, is Monte Cappello (65 m), reachable by a short and easy climb so as to enjoy unforgettable panoramas over the archipelago and the granitic outlines of the islands below. A really extraordinary point of Razzoli is, for example, Cala del Rosario with its incredible rocks, on the north coast. Besides, an ancient mule-track leads from Cala Lunga to the imposing lighthouse building, thus giving the opportunity of an easy and pleasant walk in the wild nature, in the heart of the island. From the lighthouse of Razzoli, as from all the other heights of the archipelago, the outline and high mounts of Corsica - which is very near with the islands of Lavezzi and Cavallo - are clearly visible. Razzoli is the perfect destination not to be missed for a wonderful sailing vacation in the Maddalena Archipelago, in Sardinia.

Santa Maria Island
Santa Maria, more verdant Santa Maria than the other minor islands of the Maddalena Archipelago, is the only one to be inhabited, even if almost exclusively in the mild season. In fact, some small villas stand next to the main beach, on the coast facing La Maddalena. The most striking places are: on the northern coast, the Passo dello Strangolato, a very narrow channel between Santa Maria and the island La Presa; on the western one, the Passo degli Asinelli, which separates Santa Maria from the island of Razzoli. The sea-beds, in this area, are often very shallow: if the sea level were just few metres less, the islands of Santa Maria, Razzoli and Budelli would certainly form one larger island. Other small beaches are to northwest: Cala Drappo and Cala Tamerici. In the southern side, there is a small perennial pond, named Padule, where numerous species of migrating marshy birds often stop. For all lovers of bird watching this is an ideal place, as well as for lovers of sailing vacation in Sardinia.

Spargi
Spargi is perhapsSpargi the most beautiful of the smaller islands of the Maddalena Archipelago. Its highest point is Colle Guardia Preposti (155 m) and its overall aspect is decidedly harsh, mountainous and wild. The coasts are generally high and rocky, with beautiful granite formations reflecting in the calm waters of the main inlets. The numerous coves, particularly spectacular owing to the transparence of the sea-beds and by the impending mass of granite bluffs, are covered with a thick vegetation and enriched with charming beaches of very fine sand washed by a sea with indescribable colours. The most beautiful are along the southern coast (Cala Corsara) and the eastern one (Cala Soraia, Cala Granara, Cala Conneri). The western coast, which is rather uneven, is made up of bluffs and granite clusters, eroded into the strangest shapes by the atmospheric agents: the head of a bulldog, a witch head, a boot that remebers the shape of Italy. The island, as all the others of the archipelago, is the destination of a great number of visitors coming from Palau, SantaTeresa and La Maddalena during the summer season. For his unique sea with the colours from turchese to the emerald green Spargi is one of the favourite destination for sailing charters in all Sardinia.
