Partenopean Islands - Destinations
Capri
Ischia
Procida

Isole FlegreeIschia, Capri, Procida and Vivara: these are the Partenopean Islands in the bay of Naples. To the north of the gulf are situated Ischia, Procida and Vivara, looking toward the "Flegrea" coast (and "Flegree" is their name), while in the south of the gulf, opposite to the Sorrento peninsula, lays Capri. The "Flegree" islands are different from Capri both for their position and for their different geological origins.

Isole FlegreeIschia is the largest island with her 47 square kilometres, followed by Capri with an extension little more then 10 square kilometres and Procida which is about 3 square kilometres. Procida is linked to the small island of Vivara which is a wonderful natural reserve. The most beautiful and biggest island in the Gulf of Naples, Ischia is one of the most famous seaside and tourist spa centres of Italy and the world. Today, the island of Ischia is a well-known tourist centre for four main reasons. Firstly, for its unequalled natural beauty, secondly, for its all-year-round mild climate, thirdly for its thermal water, and lastly for its modern tourist facilities and hotels.

Capri
Just off the Island of Capricoast of Naples and Salerno, between Cape Miseno and Amalfi, a great rock soars like a dream lost in the cobalt blue sea that surrounds it. This Mediterranean jewel, yearned for and exalted in some of the world’s most famous lyric poetry, is the island of Capri. The intoxicating fragrance of flowers, delicate splashes of colour, recollections of a millennial past and a peaceful charm, shattered only by the shrill cry of seagulls, are just some of the magical qualities of this mythical isle. Caesar Augustus was the first to discover the charm of Capri when he visited the island in 29 BC. So taken was he with the island’s beauty that he traded the nearby fertile Ischia for it with the city of Naples. This marked the beginning of Augustan rule. He was subsequently followed by his successor Tiberius who embarked on an intense building program between 27 and 37 AD, resulting in the construction of 12 villas. The first inhabitants to settle in Capri were the Greek “Teleboi” who came to the island in the VIII Century BC. Today, only the fortified walls of an ancient Greek acropolis still survive as testimony to their presence on the island. Best way to appreciate its coast, the sea and its sky it is of course a yachting holiday.

Ischia
Ischia isIsland of Ischia the largest of the Partnopean islands in the bay of Naples. Its volcanic origin is the cause of various seismic phenomena which have continually altered it. They have also produced the salso-iodic and radioactive thermal waters and mudbaths for which the island is renowned all over the world. The volcanic nature of the island has in fact given its inhabitants hundreds of heat source sand sulphureous spring pools, which in turn encouraged the establishment of age old spa facilities. The earth releases its waters and vapours everywhere, regenerating both body and mind. Smooth skin, silky hair, toned muscles, and an extreme sense of well-being: in Ischia this is simple. For example, at the thermal gardens in the pools with temperatures between 28°C and 40°C, one can enjoy either mud balneotherapy or solar-sea therapy. Neighbouring islands are Capri, Procida and Vivara. The circumference is approximately 35 kms (18 miles) and its geographical position allows for a mild climate, which attracts hundreds of visitors annually. As well as sandy beaches and blue sea, the island also boasts natural thermal springs, and the spa complexes around these are another major holiday attraction. The hot springs and the island's natural beauty make Ischia a popular destination. The tourist season starts at the beginning of March until the end of November Best way to appreciate the coast is of course a sailing holiday An around trip of the island of Ischia by boat is of great interest and it permits you to see the coast-line that otherwise is not visible.

Procida
The charming islandIsland of Procida of Procida lies like an undiscovered garden next to its vibrant sister islands Ischia and Capri. Flourishing gardens and fragrant lemon and orange groves bewitch visitors with their lush beauty. Procida is the smallest and oldest island in the Bay of Naples and is, like Ischia, of volcanic origin. The island of Procida is part of an archipelago of islands called the Partenopee, comprising of Procida, Ischia and Capri. The island is situated in the Gulf of Naples, between Ischia and Capo Miseno. Procida is joined by a small bridge to the much smaller island of Vivara, to the west. Arriving at the harbour Marina Grande you'll have the wonderful view of fishers' houses in pastell colours, being reflected by the deep blue water. Procida is also a perfect destination to enjoy your yacht charter in Italy. An around trip of the island of Ischia by boat is of great interest and it permits you to see the coast-line that otherwise is not visible. Reaching Procida by sea , there are a number of small coves and inlets strung along the coastline, inspiring you to swim or nap if you don't feel like a tour around the island. Yet, by day's end, you will not want to have missed a refreshing, relaxing pause at Corricella. Here, amidst boats and fishermen's nets, you sit in the shade of long stairways and houses that have communal courtyards where you can enjoy pleasant, fresh, lemon ice-water at any time of the day.
